Cargo container and shipping pallets with cardboard boxes

In busy warehouse environments it is often the case that you need to do more than one thing at once. Time saving is always being prioritized, despite the risks to user safety, as well as there being an increased chance of inaccurate stock counts or shipping errors. Pallet truck scales offer a solution to many warehouse concerns, allowing operators to simultaneously move, weigh and lift multiple items at once with minimal effort. This guide will provide an in-depth study of the pallet truck scale including, how they are used, maintained and essential to shipping and logistics operations.

What are pallet truck scales?

Pallet truck scales (also called pallet jack scales) are tools designed to weigh and move pallets. They allow users to move and weigh heavy pallets simultaneously to save time and make transportation easier. This post will be a short guide on pallet truck scales and their applications.

Pallet truck scales are very robust instruments designed for heavy duty weighing applications in the industrial and commercial sectors. They're well adapted to warehouses, docks, shipping and receiving facilities, shipyards and other demanding environments. If pallets are moved and weighed, there are pallet weighing scales for the job.

Key features of pallet truck scales: Adam Equipment's PTS

Durability

Pallets typically weigh about 4600 lbs and our PTSplus pallet truck scale has a 5000lb / 2000kg capacity. The PTSplus needs to be strong enough to withstand daily heavy-duty weighing and transporting without breaking or compromising its lifespan or precision. The steel fork is reinforced to ensure a durable lifting capability, and the base is made of mild steel. The PTSplus' indicator is sealed to ensure dust, spills and humidity are not detrimental to the scale's precision readings.

The rugged wheels are made of polyurethane, so they can handle higher weight capacities. They're also less noisy, and they have a strong grip on the floor without damaging it. Polyurethane wheels resist corrosion and chemicals, which is helpful in wet or humid areas, or in environments where chemicals and solvent are used frequently.

Mobility

The PTSplus is designed to transport the heavy loads being weighed to optimize the process, saving time and money. Our scales are used in every industry all over the world, so our PTSplus is as mobile as possible, since it can encounter all types of environmental configurations, whether it's a convention center warehouse in Germany or a shipyard in China. The PTSplus has zero-radius pivoting handle to be easy to maneuver even in tight spots and small corners. Its wheels swivel and are smooth to make sure transporting pallets is easy and safe.

Connectivity

Whether it's a small warehouse or a global shipping and receiving company, keeping track of the pallets and gathering data is important. The indicator includes an RS-232 interface to connect to printers and computers to collect and analyze data. You can even get specialized software like Adam DU to visualize and export data.

More Practical Features

Pallet jack scales have non-marring wheels, which saves time on cleaning the floors later and helps expensive flooring last longer. The indicator features color-coded keys and has audible alarms to prevent overload and simplify checkweighing. The bright backlit display changes color to indicate if weight is under, over or within preset limits. It also tracks capacity and zero to ensure users are always aware of the scale's load.

How to calibrate a pallet truck scale

Pallet truck scales such as the PTSplus follow the calibration procedure outlined for the type of weighing indicator being used. However a general guide of how the calibration procedure would work can be found below:

  1. Position the pallet truck scale on a large, flat surface with plenty of open space.
  2. Turn the scale indicator on and wait until this has fully configured, once complete this should show the standard display as '0' with the selected weight unit. E.g. 0g.
  3. Place a large flat platform surface, such as a wooden pallet, onto the beams.
  4. Once secured, tare the scale to return the weight value on the display to zero.
  5. Carefully place block calibration weights onto the scale one at a time in descending order from heaviest to lightest. (important: Make sure that the weights you place onto the platform correspond with the weight tolerances on the scale).
  6. Once you have weighed one calibration weight and confirm that its mass corresponds to the weight shown on the display, remove this from the scale and then add the next weight in descending order.
  7. Repeat this process around 4-5 times to ensure that the scale is accurately calibrated.

Where can I buy pallet truck scales?

There are many varieties of pallet truck scale available on the market today, but it can be difficult distinguishing great value and quality from poorly constructed equipment. Our PTSplus pallet truck scales combine strong, hard-wearing materials with precise weighing technology to deliver a high-quality product that truly lasts in almost any warehouse operation.
