Adam Equipment, a global manufacturer of scales and balances, recently announced that the company is moving its U.S. headquarters from its current location in Danbury, Conn. to Oxford, Conn. Company officials joined Oxford town leaders July 15 for a groundbreaking ceremony at the new site in Fox Hollow Industrial Park.
Oxford's First Selectman George Temple said the town strives to provide unique economic opportunities and a competitive edge to Adam Equipment and other companies seeking to expand and relocate.
"Adam is a valuable player in the renaissance of Oxford," Temple said. "We are delighted to welcome this company to its new home in our beautiful town." In May, Adam purchased the 5.7-acre plot of land at the corner of Fox Hollow and Jacks Hill roads from Earthworks Excavating & Landscaping Inc., owner and developer of the industrial park.
Andrew McGeever, director of the Oxford Economic Development Commission, said the company's manufacturing process meshes well with the town's long-range development plans.
"Adam Equipment is a dynamic company with a vision to provide professionals with weighing equipment at a value that surpasses the competition," McGeever said. "Its growth adds to the vitality of what's happening with the town."
Nestled in the heart of the Naugatuck Valley, the new location is in a beautiful setting, and it also meets the company's budgetary requirements and logistical needs, according to Tom Storey, president of Adam Equipment.
"The move to Oxford and into a larger building will allow us to increase our warehouse and expand our operations, including customer service, sales and marketing," Storey said. "The property is situated in close proximity to I-84. That allows Adam to continue offering superior customer service, and also helps streamline our shipping and receiving process," he added.
Adam established its U.S. headquarters in New Milford in 1998, before moving its five employees in 2002 to the present location, a 4,744-square-foot building on Commerce Drive in Danbury. Continued growth, increased sales and additional hiring spurred the company to renovate and expand in 2007, which tripled the size of Adam's building space to 11,000 square feet.
Now, with 17 employees based in its office and other locations throughout the United States, the Adam team is packing boxes for its impending move, set to take place before the end of 2015. Borghesi Building and Engineering Company of Torrington is designing and constructing the new 29,300-square-foot structure, which will contain Adam's new office and warehouse, and accommodate light assembly tasks. Butler Manufacturing Co. of Kansas City, Mo. is providing the pre-engineered building.
